Goal

Qube was developed as part of the Interspace project in collaboration with the School of Architecture Bremen. The future of Bremen's city center was considered.

Abstract

Qube is a movable seating option that uses an app to stage spontaneous social pop-ups, reclaiming public space for the community.

Award

Interspace | 2nd place - Senator for Climate Protection, Environment, Mobility, Urban Development and Housing Bremen

The inner city as we know it today is a space dominated by consumption.

This approach will no longer be sustainable in the future. The effects are already becoming visible through store closures and vacancies. Qube sets new impulses here and supports a sustainable revitalization of the city center. Public space should once again be seen as what it actually is: a place that belongs to everyone and is used collectively.

Solution

Qube is a portable seating option that's light enough to take anywhere. The cubes are linked to an app where the position of each Qube can be tracked live and events can be started on the spot. Not enough people for a game of soccer in the park? In the mood for poetry or a spontaneous flea market? Qube makes it possible for anyone to start and discover social pop-ups in public spaces.

UI Concept

The app displays all Qubes and their events. Like with a compass, users can look around, explore the surroundings and discover events. In the vicinity of Qubes, it is possible to start your own events. Institutions and cultural institutions are also able to publish events and upload related exclusive content in the cubes.

Archive

Every participant of an event can save their experiences in the form of photos and videos in the Qube. In this way, the event is recorded as a memory and can be recalled in its vicinity. The Qubes document their use as a collective city memory and thus tell the story of Bremen and its people.
